The 2022 census counted 177,393 residents. Livingstone was Northern Rhodesia's first capital from 1911 to 1935 and remained the capital of Southern Province until 2011.

A regular central grid comes from the city's colonial administrative plan. The railway runs past that core and continues toward the international crossing and Victoria Falls area.

Two kilometres from the center holds Livingstone's historic grid and its nearby railway corridor. The compact planned blocks thin quickly toward the outer roads.

Print the grid in dust red and the railway in a continuous near-black line. A pale ground around the outer streets can show how abruptly the planned core ends.
