The peak lies 63 kilometres south of Marrakesh and is visible from the city. It ranks twenty-seventh by topographic isolation and is the highest summit for more than 2,000 kilometres.

The usual ascent begins in Imlil and takes two days with an overnight mountain-refuge stop. The route is non-technical but requires fitness for the altitude.

The two-kilometre frame stays on Toubkal's summit terrain above 4,000 metres. Footpaths and relief lines dominate; Imlil lies well outside this close mountain view.

Build the summit from tightly spaced slate contours over bare paper. The ascent path needs one rust line through the otherwise roadless High Atlas terrain.
