Ulaanbaatar's 1.67 million residents live in a city founded as a nomadic Buddhist monastic center in 1639. It moved twenty-nine times before settling permanently at its current location in 1778.

Soviet-era blocks and newer roads occupy the valley floor, while ger districts spread toward the mountain edges. The Tuul forms a long southern corridor through that expansion.

A four-kilometre central frame includes Ulaanbaatar's main street network, valley districts, and part of the Tuul corridor. Ger-area roads loosen the planned central blocks toward the edges.

Draw the planned core in cold blue-gray and the ger districts in warmer felt brown. A white Tuul line can separate both from the southern valley slope.
