Wedding venue maps as keepsakes

Use a wedding venue, proposal spot, or honeymoon city for a gift, reception display, or anniversary map.

Wedding photos record the flowers, clothes, cake, and first dance. A map records the exact place where all of it happened, from the venue to the surrounding neighborhood.

A wedding map can be a gift for the couple, reception decor, or an anniversary keepsake without repeating one of the photographs.

Locations to map

The venue

Center a close view on the venue address, whether it is a barn, vineyard, rooftop, or courthouse. A countryside venue will show sparse roads and open land. A city venue will show dense blocks and nearby landmarks.

The venue is the geographic center of the day. Add the couple's names and date as a text overlay to identify it.

The proposal spot

A proposal map might center on a beach in Honolulu, a bridge in Paris, or a park bench in Boston. It records a place that only the couple may recognize and works well for a first anniversary.

The honeymoon city

A honeymoon map works before the trip as a preview or after it as a record. Florence, Barcelona, Kyoto, and Santorini are classic honeymoon destinations with distinct street networks. Our best cities for map art guide has more options.

Themes for wedding aesthetics

Choose a theme that matches the couple's home and the tone of the event.

Gold Foil places metallic-looking roads on a dark background, much like an engraved invitation. We recommend it for formal wedding gifts.

Rose Gold is softer and warmer than Gold Foil, with colors common in spring, summer, and blush-toned wedding palettes.

Art Deco adds geometric detail for a vintage, jazz-age, or old-Hollywood event. Its angular treatment draws out the formal street patterns of New York, Chicago, and Buenos Aires.

Ivory is a restrained choice that won't compete with much of the couple's decor. Use it when you don't know their preferred colors.

Warm Beige combines warm color with low contrast, so it can sit in a bedroom or living room without dominating it.

Compare the wedding palettes with other options in our theme selection guide.

Using the map at the wedding

Map posters can also appear at the event:

  • Welcome table display: Place a framed venue poster on the welcome table as a "you are here" marker.
  • Table display: Put small maps of where the couple met, had their first date, or got engaged on different tables, each with a short note.
  • Guest book alternative: Print the venue map at a large scale and ask guests to sign the margins. The signed map can go into a frame after the wedding.

Framing for longevity

For a wedding keepsake, use archival materials and a frame chosen for the theme:

  • Use archival matting to prevent the print from yellowing over decades.
  • Float mounting leaves space between the print and mat for visible depth.
  • Match the frame to the theme: gold or brass for Gold Foil and Rose Gold, black for Art Deco and Noir, natural wood for Warm Beige and Ivory
  • UV-protective glass if the poster will hang in direct sunlight

Making the gift personal

Map the 6th arrondissement where they stayed instead of all of Paris. For Cape Town, center the Stellenbosch vineyard where they said their vows. A tighter zoom keeps the gift tied to the day.

Add the couple's names and wedding date to the text overlay. "Emma & James | June 15, 2026" gives the map enough context.
